The “Backpack” has many names. There is the
“Knapsack”, “the packsack” and the military words of

The most used frame type used today for large day,
overnight and expedition backpacks is the internal
frame. There frames are sewn into the seam of the
backpack and can be made of plastic or aluminum. This
internal frame allows for great and even distribution of
the weight to be carried. These internal frame packs are
a great deal more comfortable than the external frame
packs my husband tells me he carried in the army.
Frame Backpacks are made to spread the weight of the
load across the body, from the shoulders to the
hips/waist and lower body. Your Camping Shop provides

Your Camping Shop has the Internal frame backpack
available for you. Unlike day to day packs, waist packs,
or fannie packs, these internal frame backpacks are made
to carry heavier loads. Many of this type of backpack is
heavily padded, have padded shoulder straps and padded
waist belts. Some have varied other features such as
chest or sternum belts. These are multi-day internal
frame packs used for the trek type backpacker. Usually,
the heavier packs are made of an aluminum or plastic
internal frame with a canvas or nylon material sewn to a
frame.
This type of larger backpack, with the padding and
waist belt are made for more long haul treks with heavy
weight. The weight is distributed from the shoulders to
the waist and legs, giving your back a break and leaving
your arms free for complete movement. The larger
trekking type backpack, often comes with additional
pockets for storing items and hold downs or strap-on
access for lashing equipment onto the pack. My husband
has advised me that his Military backpack (“ruck” as he
calls it), could easily carry an additional 6 quarts of
water, medical supplies, extra MRE’s,
hatchet/axe/machete, ropes, repelling equipment and a
great deal more. He advised me that as long as you are
capable of carrying it and could keep pace with your
team, the ruck could carry it. This is the type of
